    Default Okatibbee Report 8-24

Steve, Wayne and I had a good morning pulling cranks on Okatibbee. We got a mess of fish, we didn't loose any lures, and nobody got gored with a treble hook. Temps were even nice until 9:30 or so. We came home with 29 crappie. I gave the ol' ironing board another workout.

Scott, me and you got to get better on that counter, what did we have 27? Really had no hot color today. Push a few of Sat's HH jigs and caught fish but they seem to run smaller than the CB's. Still need a way to figure out how much line to put out on the push poles. Scott's buddy Claude was out pulling by his self using his gas motor and 4 poles and I believe he said he had 29. We were mainly running the same route but he was going somewhat faster than us, seemed like he was thru with our little over a mile run when we were about 3/4 thru. Don't know what size he was keeping. Nice temps and breeze this morning.

The biologists say that Okatibbee is overpopulated with crappie and that's why they took the size limit off. They say that a 10 in fish from Okatibbee is 2 yrs old where a 1 yr old fish should be that long. We're doing all we can to remedy the situation. LOL

It looks like the size of the fish have increased since the last time I fished over there. I'm looking forward to coming back over there!
