    Default Brrrr

This evening's temp was in the 50's. Just about didn't go out, but about 7 pm I couldn't take it any more and headed out to see if anybody else was on the water.

First stop a place that had been hot, until he recent heavy rains raised the lake almost a foot and a half. Dead sea, also a jerk fishing there, drunk or high and real obnoxious; so we moved down the shore line and first found some sunnies and baby perch on or around beds. Big eaters were around there, too.

When I got the distance right it was a brightly colored male bluegill between 6" and 8" on just about every cast on the 48th oz jig head and the inch and a quarter white spike tail shad and there was a decent largemouth that took that, too, and something much bigger that took off on a run that went something like 50 or 60 yards on a straight shot before the size 8 hook pulled out. You just never know what is going to pick up the little plastics next. There was no way to stop that fish on 2# line and I was starting to fear that I was going to get spooled. It stayed down; so I never even saw it and sure would have liked to.

One buddy took 5 largemouths to about 19" on Texas rigged plastic worms and the other took a couple of smaller, but decent bass early and after switching to a spinner bait, a couple of nice pike, the larger went 29 inches and bent the devil out of his spinner. It seems a little early for worms up here, but the plastic worms are taking some real nice fish already. We are also seeing more pike on the shoreline than in former years and they are all well fleshed and deep bodied fish.

FWIW muskies are showing up now, too, especially for the after dark crowd fishing for pike. One friend landed five of them last night. A good bite in general for those who will hunt it up for most everything. Crappies are missing in action for us just now, though.

We knocked off around 9:15. Pretty good outing for about 2 hours of fishing, but we just plain got too cold to continue.

Hey no1, been cold here too. Wake up to high 30's low 40's. Lots of rain & wind. Were staying at a camp on the Au Sable River. Been getting some really nice Gills. Came home for a couple days to let the rain pass...
