What are they built out of? Depending on materials used, they might be heavy to haul out and might catch a lot of wind, requiring a good anchoring system. That being said, I agree it would be a fun project and catching fish with/ out of homemade equipment is way better than with store bought.
My first shanty was a kit I bought from Bass Pro. I got a piano hinge, conduit poles, a tarp and directions in the kit. I had to build my own base, I used 1/2 plywood and 2x2, and had to assemble it myself. It was 4x8 when set up and folded like a suit case for storage. I hauled that thing all over the state and caught a ton of fish out of it. I even spent the night in it on Lake Cadillac when we got caught in a rain storm when we were crappie fishing. I lost it in a barn fire in the mid 90's.
The older I get the more I realize the therapeutic benefits of fishing
