Gonna have to rant a little

Maybe 6-8 years ago my propane company contacted me and said I wasn't using enough propane to justify having a 500 gal tank. Unless I used the minimum amount they were going to charge me a tank rental fee even though there was nothing mentioned about it when I first became their customer. If I downsized to a 120 gal tank there was no minimum usage. I agreed to take a smaller tank and things were rosy for a number of years.I should note, also, that when they set my 120 they charged me a pump out fee, credited me 1.09/ gal for the gas left in the tank and then charged me 1.49 for putting MY gas back in MY smaller tank.

In September I got a rental fee bill from them for not using enough with my 120. I started shopping around and ended up changing companies in December. Today I called them to come get their tank and they told me I owed them 176.00 for tank rental and late charges at 39.00 per month. Also, they charge 59.99 to come get their tank. I asked if I could trailer it back to them and was told no, it's against the law. They ended up waiving the 176.00 because they couldn't find the original rental agreement but are still charging the 59.99 pick up fee. She told me it might be a while before they could pick it up because they're busy this time of year. Soooo, should I back charge them 59.99 for leaving their tank on my property? She told me, on the phone, that it would have been polite to call them sooner and say I was switching companies , I said it would have been polite to call me and tell me they were going to start charging me rent.

Rant over and no, I didn't pay the pumping fee or the 1.49 they charged me before, I sent them 1.09 with a note explaining it was my gas to begin with.
