Although I am not hosting this event, I can tell you what to expect. Friday evening is a chance to get together, catch up with old friends and make aquantances with new ones. It usually takes place around a common campfire and includes some snacks and maybe and adult beverage or two. Our events are always family friendly but we tend to draw the most children in the summer events. Feel free to bring your favorite cheese and crackers, sausage, dips, or other snake type foods. Don't forget your lawn chairs. Usually, the following days events will be passed by the camp host.
These friendly events are a ton of fun. Sometimes, when there isn't an agenda, it is fun to throw 5 bucks in the pot and see who comes out on top. Although it is centered around crappie, these lakes hold a ton of other fish. We have done odd species in the past. Don't worry if you have not been to the lake. Many members that arrive early will often share their success stories. Or, tell you where not to go as a result of their lack of success.
Saturday is usually the event and from everything I am seeing regarding the weather, it could shape up to be a hot one! The fishing starts in the morning and concludes early afternoon.
A time will be set for the pot luck. Normally, in the summer event, people usually sign up to bring certain things. In the fall events, there usually isn't as many people. I suggest that everyone bring their own table settings (IE plates, silverware, napkins, and drinks). This way, not one person will be assigned to have to bring these items. In the future, our general fund allows for the purchase of these items as we have created a fund that should be self sustaining moving forward.
As for a dish to pass. It is just like any other pot luck. I remember seeing that Tim posted something in regards to a seafood type theme but I could be mistaken. Your favorite recipe for dish to pass events are always recommended. I've gotten some of my favorite recipes from events like these. Judy's taco salad, Carol's oriental salad, Michigan Man's caviar just to name a few. The old stand by of potatoe salad, meatballs, spaghetti salad, and so on.
Someone should remember ketchup (for the fries) and hot sauce (because it is good on everything). And, if you really want the best fish dip and snack dip, look no further than Sandy's award winning (it isn't but it should be) koop's mustard dip!!! Wanda's beans are pretty darn good too. And Gary and Tonda's goose jerkey. And anything that comes out of Tim and Dar's crock pot... As I said, so many favorites! You should NOT be hungry.
One last thing.... WHO is bringing the fish?
