About 6 years ago when I was doing that Project Manager job I hated, part of the project took me through Ironwood, home of Stormy Kromer products, since my son Christopher had one of these hats (No OE they aren't what you thought it was) I stopped in to see where they were made. There is quite a story on how they came to be, the guy was a professional baseball player and later worked on the railroad in the days of open locomotives. He asked his wife to make him a hat/s to keep him warm in that job.
Must be where Elmer Fudd shopped, he wears one.
