    Default Loving it!!

Hello all! I have always done a lot of reading here on the forums and figured it was time to start doing some posting myself! Really appreciate all I have learned on this site. I have been a life long hunter and it wasn't until just a few years ago when my hunting buddy started taking me fishing that I realized I have been missing out on something very special for a long time! I bought my first boat last year and I have been hooked ever since!!! Been doing some fishing at Gun Lake, Fish Lake, Payne, and Houghton lately, here are a few photos. My Wife doesn't do any hunting with me, but she sure does love to fish and she can slab up too! We always roll together and I love it! She caught the pike just trolling a small jig with a twister tail on a ultra light! We didn't do as well on the walleyes on Houghton as I hoped for (only my 2nd time ever fishing the lake for them) but the crappie were hammering the crank baits and they were some slabs too! The one was 14.5 inches.

Welcome and great to see you and the family out on the water and fishing! Like Tim said, if it works out bring them all by Sandy Beach and see how the Michigan Crappie.Com folks throw a weekend camping event. Promise you'll have a great time and eat some good food.

It is always nice to have new members. Even better when the entire family gets involved. Best advice I can give is to simply love fishing. Don't worry so much about targeting a specific species at the moment. Eventually, go with someone that can show you the ropes of a specific species and help guide you through the learning curve. Most of us didn't pick it up overnight. We have lifetimes of knowledge picking the brains of parents, grandparents, friends, family, and relatives.

Someone must have cancelled one of the Cabins. I know back in the early part of the year they were all booked up.

As for the fish, the best bet we have found during this time of year is to find areas with down trees that extend from the bank into deeper water. Sometimes they are easy to spot. Look for a tall bank with erosion and you will usually find a downed tree or three. Also look for the fresh ones that blew over with leaves. There are many cuts that extend off the main basin. Those have tons of wood standing and can be great sources as well. Some of the better trees are up stream towards Brower Park.

Nobody in this great is a (keep a secret to themselves) type of people. We all share information with each other. It is not uncommon to have a few different boats dipping treetops together. Our goal is always to have fun. Catching fish is usually secondary however we all do our best to ensure everyone catches fish. Especially if a family and children is involved.

There were three options towards the top possibly north of the campground that were available . Are these the same ones ? Are they decent? Ive been on a few sites like these and you guys are the most down to earth that's for sure! That's why I told the wife were going, and she honestly isnt the most social.person in public ha-ha. Thanks for the tips on the fishing , hopefully we get on some sat am, I'll pry try it Friday evening as well.
