    Default S.E. ice report

We rode out to Bolles Harbor tonight. Believe it or not no one on the ice. The channel where we fish had open water on the edges. Open water about a quarter mile out on the lake. hard to believe. I'll bet we'll have ice in the morning.

    Mike,

Saturday did a number on some of the lakes around here. Driving out to fish last night, I went by a lake I've been waitng to firm up for perch and it had a big open water section on it. Friday it was almost closed in. The lake I fished on Friday and Saturday last week also had two small open water sections.

Surprisingly, while I was out last night, the lake was NOT making alot of noise. I know ice was forming because of the temps but she wasn't popping like you expect. Negative numbers last night and this morning, teens tomorrow and Thursday should make for some great ice real soon.

Are we going to have ice on St. Clair this year for perch? Who knows. Unless things change for the worse, I have a fishing tournament this weekend on Whitmore lake

It doesn't look like here in Minneapolis it will even get up to 0 F again today. If this cold front doesn't give you enough ice, then nothing probably will. It doesn't look like we are going to warm up all that much for about a week either; so you all should be able to find a lot of good ice if not already, real soon now. I haven't been out in a few days now, but my guess is that we are running maybe a foot and a half here even in the heat island of the central city. Any open water we still have will probably never freeze over, if one could find any in the first place, and that would almost certainly have to be in the Big River.

It's Wednesday evening. Just got back fron checking Bolles Harbor. It's frozen over but not safe. I talked to a couple of others checking it. They thought a couple of more days and it will be safe. Erie still has open water. I don't trust Erie. I stay in close in the lagoons or the channel at Bolles H. Wicklundrh - What's happening at Whitmore Lake this weekend?

    Mike,
Whitmore has a two day tournament going on this weekend. The only details I had was that it was four man teams. Two of my buddies wanted to enter (fee is $20 per person). Problem is, it cuts in to my normal fishing time. I would rather fish for what I want to fish as opposed to fishing for something that will help me win. Last time I checked, they wanted to do something else so I think that is going to be off for this weekend. Good thing, all of my lakes are hot right now and there is too much fishing to be done and not enough time to do it.

I mapped it out. Maybee to Lake Missaukee is about 253 miles. I think we'll have to pass. We don't have anyone to tend the sheep. Last week we were suprised with one baby lamb. Seven more ewes still due. We were not planning on any until April 1st. Guess the ram must have jumped the fence and gave us an early April fools day. Hoping we don't get any more till it warms up a little. If we could line up someone to tend the livestock we would come up but it's not looking like it.

I'm correcting an error. Got the lakes and distances backwards. Maybee to Cadillac (Hamlin, Lake) is 218 miles. Maybee to Ludington (Lake Missawke) is 253 miles. Thinking about two things at once. Still a little too far to be able to deal with the livestock. We'll have a better shot at the Spring because the animals will have plenty to graze and no possible ice problems with the waterers.
