Although the ice has not been great, here is what we have been up to.
Tuesday: fished Joslin lake after dark. Three people each took their crappie limit in under an hour. All fish over 12 inches were returned to spawn.
Wednesday: same lake same results. Fished two hours for the fun of it. 14 crappie over 13 inches. Ice was thin but solid.
Thursday: fished long lake by Chelsea. Very high north wind had fish very lathargic. Alot of moving around. Kept my limit for a fish fry for my parents. Thin shore ice but good center ice.
Friday: took my dad for the first trip in 20 years. Glad i bought him ice armor. Went to a new lake in washtenaw county. Ice was good until you got to depth. She spiderwebbed. Backed out and went to Cassidy lake. Ended up with 30 perch and a mixed crappie/gill bag.
Saturday: temps in the 40s. Fished Cassidy in the AM. Fishing was tough again but managed to site fish 20 ten inch perch. Ice conditions deteriorated and looked to be settling under some shanties.
Sunday: rest...... cold weather should setup this ice very well. It is solid and clear which boads well for holding up.

Wow - I'm getting tired just reading it. Was all this after each days work at your job?

I got 200 smelt with my brother tonight.
Tuesday and Wednesday were after work, Thursday was parlayed with a Dr appointment and I was off on Friday.
Eric, awesome job on smelt. Do you and your brother have speed reels? We used to build them. They attach to the roof of the shanty. You lower the line on one side and there is a pull string on the other. Pull the string and it winds the line really quick and up comes the fish. Real quick way to get bait up and down and keep the fish under you.
Good Job on the Smelt.

No speed reels, never even heard of them. I am working on a little project for smelt fishing to take advantage of the unlimited hooks on your line...
I know how to "fry em"
