I know we are getting close to ice fishing when our sheeps watering buckets start to freeze overnight. When I have to plug in the heated watering buckets ice is not far behind. Last year I never took the shanty out of the barn.

Looks like ice could be on the way. Lakes are iced over, and we have some cold temps coming in. I think we could be fishing by, if not before, the first of the year....YEEEHAAA!!!

Hope you get out soon
I plan on hitting it one more time tomorrow , lakes are still open around here and i hope they ice up soon I had my ice gear ready for weeks now
I can't wait!! Most of our lakes have a thin coat on them, on the south east side of the state, and yes colder temps are coming! We are supposed to get a good snow Wednesday which will blanket the lakes and allow the ice to thicken even more. I bought a used power auger, in GREAT shape, and a used flasher, in GREAT shape, so my flip over Clam shanty will be heavier to pull this year but these things will make life on the ice much better for this old guy. Any ice fishing "get togethers" in the works this winter?
There was a group of us that got together at Cadillac last winter.. We stayed at Pilgrim's Village. Heard talk earlier about it, but nothing lately.

OleTimer - where are you located in SE Michigan? And I'm curious what type of flasher you picked up. I don't know much about them but have thought about trying to find a inexpensive one.

Mike. Ive tried every flasher on the market. Currently i own a hummingbird ice 35. I prefer the marcum but the vexilar fl8 is also a good little unit and can be found on craigslist quite a bit. And we are still planning a weekend crappie trip when the lakes firm up.
Glad to hear that there is going to be an outing this year. I haven't made any of the previous outings but would like to make the Ice one. Keep me posted.
Mmaveal...I am up off of I-96 and and I-696 in Commerce Township. I bought the Marcum Flasher. I JUST bought it so I have not had it to use yet. Now I can move around and find fish before I plant my Clam flip over shanty.
We saw 2 guys walking out on the ice on Houghton Lake yesterday. Didn't stay long enough to see if they made it back to shore. 3 of the 4 impoundments of the Tittabawassee that we looked at were still wide open. I won't be on the ice until I KNOW it will support 240 lbs/2 feet........MY 2 feet!![]()
