My lake choices lately
Well, I decided to take off yesterday afternoon, cut away from my chores, and do some fishing. I couldn't find anyone to go on short notice and my little buddy had school the next day. I headed to a lake that I have not fished in about a year. I normally catch some really nice Crappie's in this lake. Not a lake to catch a ton, but I was only looking for a dozen or so.
Once again, lake levels were low. So low that I was forced to utilize my trolling motor (2 inches below the water line). Thankfully by boat drafts really high in the water. This lake has a nice 15ft hole that runs about 2 hundred yards and weeds all around.
I slow trolled the entire weed line (twisters, jigs, tubes, minnows, and the kitchen sink). I slow trolled the middle of the hole. I marked more fish than even. My fish finder almost told me "stop". I caught a few gills that boardered on the "decent" size, a couple small bass, and a channel cat that might have reached a pound.
My goal was to leave by 8pm as I needed the light to avoid the floating vegetation. One more cast turned in to 45 minutes later. Of course, catching one crappie got my hopes up. In the end, I managed that one crappie. He was 10.5 inches. By the time I thought of taking a photo, it was dark and I was in a hurry to try and make the long trip across the lake (with my trolling motor).
The last three trips I have stepped in to the batters box looking to hit a fast ball, and all I get is the curve. The kitchen sink didn't work, maybe I'll try my new "dynamite" lure next time!
The trip wasn't all bad, alone with my thoughts, enjoyable evening, and a 3/4 moon that was orange in color! Nice night even if the fishing wasn't great.

I've had my share of those types of outings...thinking you're gonna hit 'em, but then finding out that it just aint in the cards.
