Slow Day
Hit the river today and found, even with the warm weather the bite was slow. The tide was moving too fast and dropped to a ridiculously low level. It was till going out strong when I pulled the boat after 5 hours. Caught 24 crappie with only one that I considered worth keeping at 10 inches (released it), 3 big yellow perch, one bluegill and a small pickerel. Water started out at 38 degrees and ended near 40 by end of day. 2/3 of the crappie were caught verticle jigging and the rest casting. They were biting light, so light that I caught quite a few by watching the fishfinder, seeing a fish rise to the bait and just sit there. No tug, no nothing until I started reeling in to see what was going on and he was on there like a wet sock. Its always interesting.
