The bottom fish is a northern snakehead. The press made this fish out to be a monster who will eat your dog and steal your car. Turns out they are a very good sport fish on rod and reel. They breath air and live in the swamps in less than a foot of water . They hit top water lures and can get to 20lbs. Primary diet is banded minnows and frogs. They are now the second most popular food source for LGMouth. Everything eats them as they have no spines. They grow fast and taste like flounder only a bit sweeter. They have a place in the Potomac Eco-system and provide both Capt Dave and I a great target species since they will bite mid-day in the brightest sunshine.
You average about 500 casts before you catch one. Not easy to do since once hooked they often break 40lb braid or just throw the hook. The mouth has no lips and a lot of gripping teeth and hook sets have to be very hard.
