I used to fish the upper end of Mattowomen cr. in winter and did good around a beaver lodge and some other wood structure. Capt. mike on here would be the one that would know the most about main river crappie as he guides there.
Swan Creek is hot right now..
It is a big area but look for the area just before the marina. It is boat only since bank fisherman trashed the area.

I believe Swan Creek is just east of the 301 Bridge where it crosses the Potomac. North (MD) side.

I'm new to this site and to Crappie fishing in general. I've been to a few lakes in Columbia for Crappie but can't find them at the moment even w/the surprisingly warm temperatures lately. Are there any spots open to shore fisherman in Jan/Feb that have been known to be productive or do I pretty much have to wait until April for the higher water temps? Anything in Montgomery/Howard county or along the Potomac would be great but I'd venture further out if I knew it would be productive. If anyone can help point me in the right direction, it will be much appreciated! (also would up for some Yellow Perch fishing should Crappie be kinda unrealistic for now)
