    Default FFS Question

Looking for settings advice. Rojo and I are in somewhat agreement of fishing this time of year. Yet as my wife of fourty-seven years would say, her husband has had a fishing addiction for as long as she has known me.
With that said, I have an older nine inch Garmin unit, and I use the older thirty two transducer.
I rarely adjust my unit to help me size the fish better.
I generally only scan forward thirty five feet and generally want set my depth less than seventeen feet.
With that said as you might guess when these slabs go one foot to five foot to spawn it’s a mess on my screen.
Now normally I don’t even use FFS this time of year. But I would like to learn too. And that’s why I’m a member of this group, to continue to gain knowledge, which is another issue I have. Always trying to learn something new, always trying to sharpen my skills.
If anyone has suggestions for me to try please let me know. Y’all go jerk some lips.

You want to use the LVS to look for spawning fish in 1-5’ of water is what I gather, correct?

Its not easy, they are usually in cover up that shallow which makes a lot of clutter to see through. But forward view is not what you want, you want to be using perspective for this. Its only going to work if they are on more isolated stuff. A stump off shore, a log, a straight vegetation line but out in front of it. Stuff like that will help pick them out of the clutter.

Good news is you have a 32 which is better in perspective mode than a 34 IMO!

Another thing to add is that you can setup the programmable keys on your Garmin to quickly switch between two settings--i.e. normal and shallow water. The LVS32 is fine for most crappie fishing.
If I'm not at work or taking kids to their activities, you might find me on "The Rez" fishing. If not there, I could be in the garage working on my boat.

I'm with Kevin on the Perspective Mode setup for fish in 1-5fow. That being said, I have the 9"/LVS32 setup and don't have Perspective. But, I can usually catch the shallow fish with a weedless jig or a Road Runner, casting the banks. I use the FFS to spot the larger females holding on cover a ways out from the spawning banks. Spawning Crappie in the lakes I fish around here tend to spawn in 5-8fow most of the time, so Perspective Mode isn't all that necessary (for my money, anyway).

Thanks for the info. So I’ve only had my FFS for about a year. This red neck ain’t got a clue how to get it on perspective mode. Now my friend has a 34 and I think you have to turn the transducer horizontal. But don’t hold me to that. I have mine on a single pole on a zero degree mount.

Another thing that I may add. Most of the time when I’m using my FFS.
I simply get the depths of the fish. Look at the shapes of the structure they are on and go to fishing. Not really a screen watcher.
Watching that screen I learned early on takes something away from “fishing” to me. Meaning noticing your surroundings, the water, movement and such. I guess screen watching is ok if you’re on a big open body of water like a lake or reservoir. But I’m in rivers, back water off rivers, small oxbows, sloughs and such. We like calling it “no man’s land or should I say water around here.

If I remember correctly, setup the screen as you want, and then hold and press the programmable shortcut key and follow the prompts to save it. It can be combos, settings, or whatever; it saves the entire screen layout, if I remember correctly.

It's a little more complicated than that ... you have to have the Perspective mount in order to turn the transdx sideways, but you also have to update your Garmin unit's software to V18.1 or newer so that the Garmin unit can translate the incoming signal correctly to your screen. (Google "updating Garmin for Perspective Mode)

(from what I'm reading, the "upgrade" to Perspective Mode will cost in the neighborhood of $160 ... for the mount & micro 32GB SD card for the software update)

Update 2.30 on the gls10 adds perspective mode, you are probably already there unless you have never updated your fishfinder (box updates with fishfinder). $20 mount off amazon is all you need. I dont know about the v16 update or what that is for, as the Plus units maxed at 13.1 and they can use perspective
