How much line do you put out behind the planer board? I had been thinking of putting a little weight with a couple jigs or minnows and only putting out maybe 5-6 feet behind the planer (just something to try so I don't have SOOO much line out) but I didn't know if this would be too close and the planer would spook them at that point?

At about .6 -.8 mph, (2) 1/16 jigs will run about 2/3 of the depth of line out behind the board. For example: with 15 ft of line out the jigs will run about 10 ft. Less line out = shallower running jigs. More out = deeper jigs. In my opinion... planer boards do not spook the fish. Crystal clear water may be the exception though.
