Braid has zero stretch so you do not want a hard hookset. I set my hook about the same speed as you would use picking up your ringing cell phone. It's more of a sweep motion than a pop of the wrist.
Bon Temps will testify, when I'm fishing braid, as soon as the Thump happens I Boom the Crappie up and swing in the boat. If I can do it without any splash at all that is my goal. Hook size has been a major player in my switching from netting to swinging. Going down to #4 hooks as Ketch recommended quite a while back, now the hook is so far inside the fish if a Crappie falls off the hook it falls in my boat. Using braid, vertical jigging, I may pull the hook 1 in 75 fish. I like those odds.

What's the action on the rod you're using? A fast action can cause pulled hooks, moderate action gives a little more bend
I was using the 9' Sam Heaton super sensitive.
