What is the technique called for casting and retrieving w/o a float?

My brother and I prefer ultra light tackle and casting and slowly retrieving. I thought that would be called tight lining, but it seems with crappie this is not the case. I want to know the name of the technique so that a forum search can be used to learn more about it.
