Flying fish you say ?

Only airborne Crappie I've ever latched onto were a couple of Blacknose I stuck down at Watts Bar in E. Tenn .... and one of them did the polaris missile imitation upon hookset .... coming out of a big blowdown, over the bow of the Tracker TX175 and re-entered the lake about 3ft on the other side.

Had one big White Crappie female "try" to do the tail walk thing some distance from the boat, but just couldn't get it together, what with me frantically crankin' the reel and heavin' back on the rod.

On one of Richard Gene's video's he says that crappie came up like a old bass fish .i bout fell out my chair laughing .it was just how he said it lol

H says braid is better on hooksets because it don't stretch ....
my response wasn't so kind .... it involved sissy hooksets .....
the rod best bend nicely , the drag give slightly and the mono stretch well or it aint gunna end well when I set the hook ....

I have a pretty solid hookset. But it is tuned to braid. With mono I have to be a lot different or I will miss the occasional fish

I just picked a 40’s era bamboo fly rod that belonged to wife’s father. A guy I fish with is a fly fisherman and redoes old rods. He got it back in shape with a few new eyes and thread. It’s reversalable to use as a spinning rod so I’ll try to catch some crappie.

The ones I have seen do it all came from Benbrook lake , never seen any other white crappie do it like they do , it will for flat out blow your mind , can't truly say I ever seen any fish getting air time that made me smile quite that much .....
well then again , the double hook up at the same time off the pacific side of costa rica and the 2 "vela" going head to head at the exact same moment in time and passing each other in the air as they jumped was some extra smile big stuff .
