    Default Big Waves

Yesterday I made a thread about figuring out how to fool the males. Today I went back out and tried to adapt to what I had learned. I received the new rod from UPS and rigged it up and went fishing. The one new idea I had didn't work, they would not take it aggressively so I kept missing them. Went back to my noodlerod and stayed out from the nest building area. I was able to start hooking the ones that were ever so slightly picking it up. Then the wind came up hard and I was unable to continue with my noodlerod. I switched back to the new rod, and put a huge 1/16oz head on with a strike king slabalisous. This rod is way too stiff for my liking and the jig head way too heavy, but the waves had grown to over two feet and I had to use the gas motor to position the boat for anchoring. I had seen fish on the screen so I knew what depth to target. I did all this just so I could fish;didn't expect what happened next. I proceeded to wear the prespawn females out! The boat slamming in the waves must have been keeping the fish away from the boat, but I hooked one huge silver one after the other way out at the end of the cast! Beautiful fat fish fought hard and could sometimes be seen flashing in the huge waves 75ft from the boat. The wind changed direction and died and with it,so did the easy catching. All this in the scope of two and a half hours. Thirty one landed, none harmed. Name: 20220329_161619.jpg

Good that none were harmed. They were some nice sized ones. Nice trip out for you.
