So now all the challenges have been addressed in my mind for allowing extra line on this telescoping rod = and not actually being more inconvenient than just carrying several small spools of different lengths of line and having to replace the line every time of fishing a different depth of water ...

BnM used to sell a pole that looked and worked EXACTLY like this: telescopic, line running through the pole, small fly reel attached at bottom. (I know because I bought one.)

That was at least 25 years ago, though. It obviously never caught on. Maybe it’s time has come.
