Boat related but not fishing. I took a friend in my 14 foot Polar Craft with 25hp Johnson to a spot on KY Lake where he had been shooting some diver ducks. We were running late, no thanks to me.
I beached the boat, threw the anchor way up on the bank, and we hustled to the blind site. All morning he yapped about how mad his wife would be if he wasn’t home by a certain time. Of course, we hunt until we knew we would have to make a screaming trip home.
I walk to the boat and it was sitting there, bow on the bank but everything from middle to transom was sunk!! A barge had come by during the hunt and swamped it!! I tried every way possible to get it floating. I finally got it turned sideways along the bank, got most of the water out, got it started and headed to the blind. Boat won’t plane off!!
I reached over the transom, pulled the plug, and proceeded to run in circles in the bay while the last of the water slowly drained out. The whole time I see my buddy jumping up and down, pointing at his watch. I ran the boat onto the bank at his feet, got the plug in and then proceeded to start to listen to him wail away that I’m making him late to get home. My trying to explain what happened didn’t matter. His wailing was quickly cut off and replaced with my question…Do you want to WALK Home??
I don’t think we ever hunted the lake together again.
