Couple of years ago I bought a "Tilly Airflo" big brim hat, works great, but the price was kinda high.
Years ago walking into work alongside "Fred", He was wearing some kind of safari hat snapped up on one side. I asked what kind of hat it was, He said "Man, it's a Tilly. A buddy of mine paid $300 for it, then sold it to me for $50". I asked How did He get that kind of deal on it. Fred said "My Buddy worked at the Zoo, and wanted a hat to look the part. One day after He bought the hat, while cleaning up in the elephant pen, one of the elephants walked over and quickly swung His trunk over Him, snatched the Tilly off His head, and gulped it down the hatch real quick. A day or two later, while shoveling up piles in the elephant pen, there was the Tilly! He hosed it down, no damage, but it was just never the same to Him, so I got it for 50 bucks".
True story.
Tilly's have a great reputation for being really, really durable.
Time will tell.
Oh, by the way, mine was brand new when I bought it, never digested - at least not yet...
