mosquito minnows about a dozen at a time , eats about 9 or 10 as soon as the sunsets , the other 2 or 3 make it about 1 or 2 more days , the goldfish that is in that tank is some kinda jumpy right now i tell ya .
really tuned in fast to seeing humans and coming for food and begging , took it about 2 days to figure out who drops food in the tank

Looks like a small snapper!
Bob
yes sir ,a common snapper , before anyone goes and gets all kinds of alligator snapper sideways about it in our aquarium .
sure has what is quite common in them with a real bad boy attitude and a strike that will outpace lightning it seems .
about the size of a chicken egg and around 1 year old , not a this year hatchling .
our "pancake" turtle (aka softshell turtle ) that was in there grew up from hatchling to pancake size and got replaced with this one .
it is amazing to see how large of a food item a tiny snapper can engulf in a single strike
we are currently on a chicken innards diet supplemented with mosquito minnows and some crappie trimmings too ....
it is totally deadly in the dark and reduces a live minnow population FAST .
it managed to ketch the last rosey red in the aquarium that was about a year old and very turtle wise the first night !![]()

It will be munching on crappie minnows in no time

Funny how quickly they become accustomed to being fed

the speed of the strike is just amazing , to watch one eat food ,with the kids is REALLY fun ,it never fails how the kiddos jump like they hit an electric fence on the strike
my 9 year old and my grandson both had the same reaction ,oh look at the turtle , he is hungry and WHAM ! gone in one strike is the food at about 2 seconds faster than the speed of lightning![]()

Yes, no doubt a good practical lesson. It won’t take long for them to connect the dots and realize that’s how fast a finger would disappear….
