I know you said mid-priced and my suggestion doesn't fit that, so I may be wasting your time (I hope not). Walmart sells a Shakespeare rod named "DURANGO". The thing is all of 10 bucks including tax. It is 6'6" and says it's a medium light action, but the tip is a noodle. The tip of the rod bends with just a 1/16 ounce jig. They sell it in both a straight grip casting version and a spinning version. I've used them for years. They're my favorite vertical jigging rod. I don't remember ever breaking one other than loosing an eye insert once in awhile. They also make a medium action that I use for longlining. I bought 12 of them today just to put up in case they stop making them. Just thought I'd plant a seed.
