There's a local place where I fish 1x a year for a small tournament. The water is slightly stained and averages around 12 fow. Usually around 45° at tournament time. I can catch crappie consistently on a certain 2 color grub. Green and yellow. If I use the same lure in each of those solid colors my catch rate drops an estimated 75%. The purpose of this trial was to lock in on the specific color of the 2 caught their attention. Seemed to be a logical test to me but it failed.

Perhaps the fish are attracted by the color where the yellow and green meet = lime.

on the serious side it might be more about the contrast on the 2 color and the lack of on the 1 color ,than the actual color
AND on the not so serious side last week was 2 color week .....just saying![]()

I will give you the same advice that I gave to rojoguio on another thread when he was upset that the crappie were not biting his hand tied
Here it is. "Slab sauce or crappie nibbles work on all colors of plastic plastic, and even hair jigs. Try some of that on your lure and go back after those crappie who disrespected your lure. You can do this. Remember that "Quitters will never win and that fishermen will never quit!" I changed the quote around but you get the message. Throw some "G" sauce or some "Slab" sauce on your plate and then get your hot sauce ready.

Crappie Fishing is definitely a "Thinking Man's Game". I would have tried the same thing logically theorizing a better percentage of numbers or size may be discovered. After sticking steel to Crappie for so many years sometimes you expect a good result, you can just see the fish jumping in the boat till you actually try the experiment. In reality, Crappie fishing would just be like any other fishing if it didn't make us Think, Plot, Plan, Mull Over, Prepare, etc all with the purpose of increasing our catch size or numbers. In other words, "Crappie Anglers become the Best Anglers because they Push the Envelop of Knowledge". I completely support your experiment.

I have cast almost every color Crappie Magnet made and have found, incredible as it is, that certain colors can be counted on most of the year. A partner uses only red body/chart. tail and almost keeps up with me fish for fish while I'm rotating between 6 colors just for the heck of it. Next week, next month or different water - no difference. Some colors just don't do it for me though maybe cause my mind sometimes doesn't know the difference between me liking a color and the fish liking it.
Best advice I could come with is to fish different waters or in the same water at different times of day, different months/ seasons using different lures in the same experimental colors. The scientific method is time consuming but it eventually covers all bases and is usually more reliable at finding the truth that sticks vs. opinion based falsehoods that don't.
Every post I've made regarding lures depended on using the scientific method as described above.

Your experiment was a success. You got the answers you were looking for on that body of water.

I didn't think of it that way but you're right. It's rare that I start with the right selection but in this case I did.
