    Never heard that phrase used. My partner and I have been averaging over 80 fish/ 5 hours on the water that include 8-11" crappie, y.perch, nice sunnies and small bass. Water temp: 85 degrees or higher surface temp. Average lake depth fished less than 8' and in as little as 4'.
    Colder water slows metabolism making fish lazy; higher temps make them more irritable IMO and more prone to striking - even in the middle of the day.

    Maybe it has something to do more with oxygen levels then.
