Due to the ridiculous hard hook sets i often employ and a methodical depth placement in many cases to ensure bunches of bites ,after 50 to 75 hard hook sets my line often gets an abrasion on it typically right on my bail .
This often is caused by my hurrying to get my jig back down there when the bite window is happening . Maybe the bail didnt close all the way or the wind blew the line off the wind area and or any number of other mishaps .
None the less it is something that i often know about and fail to correct . Case in point >>>>
Hit a spot i thought would produce well and to be sure it was flat out on fire first drop . I knew my line was burned a good bit from the day before and failed to retie as I am often just in a hurry to get a jig wet .
At number 30 something i set the hook on a heavy fish and KABOOM , the ole slime line 6 lb. mono went KERPOW .....
Now mind you this ,was the one that got away a whale fish ?....heck i dont know but to be the line break was BIG and clear as a bell . Just shredded my line it did .
Anyway this post is a gentle reminder to those that are worried about the one that got away , retie often with mono and feel your line frequently , a rough spot will likely break if you hang something good on a heavy hook set and or in a solid fight .
i know i know , braid will cure that , i hear that rumble in the distance ,not likely to happen as it just aint my thing .
Sides you want a good fish story or not .....
KABOOM is the word
