.... basically I'm saying that when Pulling & the boat does a S curve in the water ... your baits are NOT going to follow that exact same path. They're going to try and stay straight behind the boat .... so the farther behind the boat they are, the less they are affected by your turns. When Pushing, you have shorter lines out, so the baits are going to follow that path more closely than when Pulling. Is that any better an explanation ??

There was nothing wrong with the explanation the first time, I got it. Mine was a joking reference to your post,, that's all.

Im pretty much convinced that it varies with individuals.
A tug boat for example will push a barge up against a dock because it has better control when pushing than it does when pulling, where it requires open water in order to do.
So for me space is the determining factor for how much line i have out, followed by water depth.
I also hear the term tight lining used, which i assume is another way to describe pushing.
Im pretty much convinced that spider rig trolling is just another term for tight lining or pushing.
So does it really matter where we sit in the boat or exactly where the rod holders are located when we do any of this?
I know i know that the real pros do it this way. Lol
But im not a pro and not interested in becoming one. Beyond that i always fish alone.
Im seriously considering just having rod holders in the center of my boat on both sides as opposed to both ends.
Seem to me it might be easier to do both at the same time, be more comfortable while doing it, and not need 2 separate fish finders.
With the exception of having rods pointed straight out front, which i could still do if i chose.
Id be interested in knowing if anybody has tried this.
yobuck, IMO I think what you described is exactly right. Tightlining, Spiderrigging, and Pushing are the same in my eyes with the exception of moving at a constant or higher rate of speed when pushing. In general, this method is performed off the front of the boat. Not to say you couldn't catch some off the sides, but I'm a firm believer that more would be caught off the front unless the fish were deep in deeper water. Reason being the boat will spook fish. The advantage to having long poles off the front is the baits get to the fish before the boat. As far as pulling, trolling, or long-lining most are fishing out the back of the boat or a combination of off the sides and out the back. You have a longer line out and less of a chance of the boat spooking fish. I would say if you were going to long-line troll or pull, having all of your rod holders off the sides in the middle of the boat probably wouldn't make or break you, but I think it would hurt you if you were to tightline/push/spiderrig....Just my 2 cents from a non-professional
Hooking up every chance I get!

yeah ... we cool !! I just don't always get the pictures in my mind down to words on the screen, and sometimes go into a long drawn out explanation to compensate ... and some people may get lost in the process
