I use them a lot go for it.
I personally use #2, but would not hesitate to go smaller. I’ve caught some big trout on a size 18 fly, so a 6 for crappie should be fine. I don’t get “cheated” on my hookset, if you know what I mean, so I need that longer #2 to hook the roof of the mouth!
I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.
I use everything from tiny hooked 1/64 jigs to 1/4oz with 2/0 hooks depending on lake/conditions. Both ends of the spectrum will easily catch from the smallest to largest of crappie. But I will always choose the 2/0 if I can though, fish stay on the hook so much better than with the small hooks. The size of the bait is the only thing that dictates me ever dropping to smaller jighead hooks.

When I used the #4 sickle hooks they looked huge, but they hooked fish really well. I thought they were the upper end of the sizes I should try for crappie, but guess I will tie up some of those #2 sickle jigs and see how they perform. Great advice and encouragement here. Thanks all!
There is a Jig Tying forum here, you need to check out also. Skiptomylu is the moderator for it.
