My buddy used to use 1/2oz weights above his leader/jig/minner rigging, then went to 3/4oz weights to keep his lines vertical when Spider Rigging ... regardless of windy conditions or not, or what weight jighead he was using.
It could also depend on what length/brand/model rod one is using as to how much weight is needed.
