James ....after you let out your given length of line....make a guess of length of line from rod tip to the water and let that much more out. Yes that chart will work off the back with a 3 oz. Weight. I just use the pushing method when I am going to be making sharper turns so i wont have as much line out to hinder that. Also i use the pushing method for running shallow running baits deeper. Other than that i usually pull cranks that run about like a bandit 300 with out weights and use a line out depth chart for that and still allow for the extra line from rod tip to the water. I use line counter reels.
