Just checked out squeeze-out on Amazon: $5.99 free s/h with prime. Does it really work on small mouths like sunfish?

Never tried it on them but I don't see why not. It is about the size of a pencil.
Anther reason I don’t use a lot of crankbait when bass fishing, too many horror stories and bass almost always shake their head. I still like jerkbait and top water sometime but with all the barbs crimped down and with fish gripper to help avoid putting my fingers where the hooks at.
I used cranks with crappie because I think they are small enough that I can hold their body, and with small forceps I could remove the hook easily. I got poked and bloody from crappie’s fin a couple times mostly from the one on two pelvic fins but that still way better than treble hook. Now I have a second thought about crankbait for crappie lol.
I use this jaw grip especially after getting hooked. I loop the strap around my wrist and it locks on the fish's jaw. Doing so paralyzes the fish like a thumb holding a bass's jaw at an angle. Fish stop moving completely.
A friend gave me this a few years ago and I found it works better than Berkley's jaw grip which is heavy and takes up a lot of room. It's around 8 bucks/ free s/h with Amazon prime.
