Caught a couple of this today with bisty minnow. Got a lot of small bites and two big pull but no hook up. This one seem to have a lot of action, too much action for black crappie maybe.

Your excellent post demonstrates the variety of shapes, colors and lure actions that catch fish !
Good observations on tackle that enhance the above and that should be honed to what fish will strike vs what they should strike.
Keep reporting. It provides new idea of what to experiment with in my local waters (plus start using lures that have been stored away for decades).
Send a PM to Superdave336 and see if he'll send you a few of his hand tied jigs to try. If they fish like they look, you catch every fish in the lake the first day!

Nice catch.
I haven’t caught a good size crappie for awhile especially this past week we got a cold front and crappie seem to disappear. I moved my spot to main lake and choose a bit heavier lipless but still small enough. Only caught one 12” and a bass. I guess my crappie time is end.
Keep em coming! We like pictures! Especially crappie pictures !!!
We do love pics! Pretty fish.

What you've shown with photo proof are the variety of lure types and colors fish attack. Some may say that those lures fall into categories where they should be used rather than say fish strike regardless and more so - right place, right time, right presentation. I would have never thought pan fish would strike Rat L Traps, but those shots are just a few examples of the unpredictability of fish of different species reacting to unnatural looking and sounding lures though many humans consider them natural in action and appearance.
Hopefully more anglers on crappie.com will start posting more photos of fish + lures they were caught on. We can all broaden our selection of lures and even discover other favorites that seem to catch fish like it was their last meal. (...an no, I don't believe that lures necessarily represent food to fish. Would you chow down on a hot dog that makes a rattling sound and that has treble hooks sticking out of it? ! :yikes)
If I had a brain the same size as a Crappie .... yeah, I probably would :biggrin
But, I have hands that I can use to "remove" any unsightly "garnishes" from my food, whereas a fish has to rely on sight/smell/taste to determine if something is edible .... therefore, if it passes the sight/smell test, then it has to be sucked into their mouth for the taste test, and that's when the angler gets first notice that a bite is in progress. :twocents
It is definitely tougher to find crappie for me. After that 12” I went to the same spot with 3 crappie set up, 1/16oz roadrunner marabou, 1/16 oz moonshine jig and bisty minnow but came out empty handed. Today I was lucky to catch one on Rapala Rattlin rap 05 keep casting to the same spot, try to stay at same depth for nothing, try deep and shallow again nothing. It is really tough but make thing more interesting and I love that “not gonna give up” next stop Norman 200.
