i love to toss every color at them myself . I find it quite entertaining and sometimes I find items shape wise and color wise that become items I think I need to carry .
one thing I have noticed is that sometimes they will take a rather large offering and other times quite the opposite .
as far as suggestions on what you might want to consider , I would think some handtied stuff might be fun . the handtie folks really get creative and produce some cool baits too .
nice photos and to be sure standing on the bank can be rewarding .

Man should I be happy or sad, finally caught two fish on Rapala Countdown but both bluegill no crappies. And with a couple casts onto a shore, I got an end result.

You could look at it like, well dang, I lost my diving lure but at the same time I gained a new top water lure. Look it' happy, it even has a smile...:Rofl

Too bad it is sinking model. I might take the hook out and make it front runner if float.

Finally first crappie on crankbait, only caught two plus bluegill but it was exciting enough. Got a few more to try including busty minnow and snapbean. Also just order a bait lot with some varieties of plastic, I’m gonna have a whole week of fun.

It amazes me how big a bait them fish will hit!

I know you guys are getting sick of me posting picture, but I’m too excited and wanna share/show off to someone. None of my family members are into fishing like me, so you guys are stuck with me lol.
As I said, I’m pretty new to crappie fishing so any crappie caught with new lures give me joy and even if such lures caught only a fish, i’d say worth the investment.
BTW I have learned a couple things today, seem like a lot of crappies don’t like a lot of movement so slow down is the best approach. And no set hook with crankbait just keep reeling and keep pressure on the fish.
This evening, I planned to try nothing but crankbait to get ready for fall and spring bite. I tried 3 different lures today, lipless crank (2” 4.2 grams this time with treble hook), LC snacky 1” 1/16oz and Snap bean 1” 1/16oz.
On lipless I used my bass rod L/BFS which a little bit too much backbone lost a few good fish setting hook. Next time I with use my crappie rod with has a lot more bend.
On snap bean, I forced my self to slow way down, a lot different when fish for bass with diving crankbait, but got a few crappies and lost a few too.
On snacky slow sinking only success with bluegill so far, this lure give a big wide wobble when slow retrieve but tight action when fast. Gotta figure it out which is best for crappie.

Dude ... don't you dare stop posting pics & reports !! :biggrin Seriously ... we love pics & stories and seeing someone having success while going thru the learning curve or experimentation. We've all been there, or are still there, and it gives us a sense of accomplishment if we helped or a sense of confidence if we're still in the beginning stages of figuring out these fish.

So, keep it up ... and keep letting us in on your adventures !!

You might want to try trolling some of the crankbaits that dive to mid-depth. It's been catching different species for me locally. Cover more water and hopefully catch more fish.
The other tip is to modify the bait in the first post by cutting off everything and leaving the back end where you will reattach your jig:

Your jig hook comes out near the line made by the two colors. It will look something like this:

It has been one of my best design yet catching different fish species. A light jig is recommended.
To fish it you twitch the rod tip a few times, pause and repeat. The wobble gets them every time!
