Thieves are one of the few things that take enjoyment out of fishing. No matter if you have a nice boat or are just throwing a few rods in the bed of your truck your stuff is vulnerable to these low lifes. I make a good living but I am still a very frugal person. Whether I was to lose a $4000 outboard or just a $20 Walmart rod/reel combo I would be furious and it would ruin my day.

I am fortunate enough to have a small tin boat I fish my local horsepower restricted lakes with but as a result of being hp limited, the boat is built light and lacks much storage and really the only lockable storage is my stern hatch which holds my fuel tank, battery, and emergency dry box. My rods, tackle, and other equipment is in the floor. Then I have a couple of decently valued depth finders plus other things like nice quality seats and pedestals, coolers, etc. A quick thief could pretty much clean my boat out in less than a minute if I were in the store or had to go a ways to fetch the truck at a ramp. For this reason I try to avoid leaving my stuff unattended at all. I know some people think I am paranoid, but like I said, if just one small item were to go missing it would infuriate me and ruin my day of fishing.

That's exactly how I am with my kayak.
