I was bitten a few years back and didn't notice immediately. I was on the tractor and only remember grabbing at my pants as if something was crawling in them.
A few days later, I had the tell tale bullseye by my groin. It was Saturday. I researched all weekend and called the Dr on Monday. My dr was out and they said 2 weeks to be seen. Knowing what I knew, this was unacceptable.
The best time to get on antibiotics is in the 1st stage. Unfortunately, tests don't always indicate an issue in this time. Couple that with Dr office's who want you to wait 2 weeks and you have a recipe for disaster.
I forced my way to the Dr, asked for the blood test and asked for him to immediately put me on antibiotics. He argued with me. I simply asked if he was a professional that specialized in tick bites and Lyme disease. He was not. I also said that none of this could hurt but only help.
The initial test came back negative but I was already on antibiotics. The second test came back positive and was 6 weeks after the bite during the stage where antibiotics are not effective anymore.
Although I was tired A LOT, that was about it. I still see that guy around the office but have personally told him that I was glad he wasn't my doctor. I potentially saved my own life. Thank my medical training, internet research, and intuition. Not a doctor who knows nothing about it.
