Crappie Casting Rods

The 7' rod is a 3SW70ML If you prefer a longer rod I also us a 5 weight fly rod also made by St Croix 42F905.2 To make the fly rod cast like any spinning rod just use spinning rod guides on it. Both work very well for me. Actually I made myself several of both models. If you feel the need you can check my thread on building a custom rod start to finish and the tactic I use in gluing on the reel seat that returns the max sensitivity.

For the type of fishing you describe I use a BnM Richard Williams Crappie Wizard.

Did not offend me. Both reels have pluses and also minus. While BFS is quite popular now I’m not sure even a high end BFS setup can cast 1/32 very far.....even with the high end reels and BFS spools. There are times I’m tempted to go back to bait casters but I know for sure they can’t cast 1/64 and I use a lot of 1/64.

I voted ACC Crappie Stix, but I also use St Croix trout model, and since watching Richard Gene the Fishing Machine I also picked up the Eagle Claw Powerlite 6' and Cadence CS5 6' light action rods for casting jigs and vertical jigging. I even have an old Berkley Cherrywood from the 70s I still use for bream. Reels include modern JDM Daiwas (the best IMO) as well as lower-end reels, and even a vintage Zebco/Abu Cardinal 3 and Garcia-Mitchell 408.

I got 2 of the rods use by Richard also or I think I did. When I got them I thought the were a little limber. I never notice until later they have feather weight wrote on them.
I have ever used either one so know nothing about them.

Many people think Richard Gene uses a Eagle Claw Powerlight rod (fiberglass) while he actually used a Featherlight rod (graphite). I purchased a Featherlight years ago at a Academy store for $12. I looked all over for another one can could never find one. It's a good but great rod. I have so many different rods that it is hard for me to be married to one.
