I can do you one better.

I have 6 12' Jenko Cypress Creek poles I paid 146 dollars for from eBay. Two 12' BnM West Points for 40 from the bargain bin at Academy. Then 6 Shimano IX1000R and 2 Shimano IX2000 for 10 dollars each at Dunham's Sports here in NC. So for $266 I have a full set of 8 rod and reel combos that get the job done. I will, however, pick up a couple Southern Crappie rods to get a couple 14 footers as well. Everything I purchased new and has been pleased thus far with everything I have purchased. Though I am not denying that some of the higher end equipment may be of significantly higher quality, but it is hard to argue when this setup has been getting the job done.

This is my first year just fishing crappie and keeping costs in check was a major issue. I had the boat, but no rod holders, sub-par electronics and sitting for just one on each end of the boat. Also had to purchase a trolling motor. I am happy with the outcome, especially for what I have in it. But to each his own and buy whatever it takes to have fun and enjoy yourself I am all for.

Folks need to understand people will buy what they want to buy. If you catch fish with a cane pole and a worm and are happy with that I’m happy for you. If you are a tackle enthusiast....as I am.....and you favorite crappie rod and reel is an 850 dollar setup I’m happy for you too. Nothing to be gained by calling someone cheap for not spending money, or calling someone stupid because they spend that kind of money on a setup. I guarantee most folks have some obsession....hobby.....something, that they spend a ton of money on that many others think is ridiculous. Just keep on fishing and having a good time.

me carries 2 to 3 rods max ....each one runs from 40 dollars on the setup to 150 .....
one is for one single pole thing the next for yet another
sometimes the third rod is there for if I am in an in between the other 2 situations situation
but in the end I can hurt them with a 12.99 set up if I choose to ....I like the feel of some rods
some not so much ....its a preference thing I think in the end .

I've learned over the the years of spending time and money to catch crappie. That it does not madder if it was $1000 Or $20. It's not how much you spend. It's all in how you twerk it. Lol

It's about enjoying experience. If you don't enjoy fighting fish on the cheapest setup, then it's not doing you any good. I've learned to be patient and buy things on sale and get the best you can get with what you can reasonbly afford. I lost a $100 fishing rod this year in the lake. It gave me the opportunity to replace it with something I liked better. It's all about perspective. Enjoy your time on the water.

can someone tell me why a person would over $1000 for rods&reels for longlining when all you do is cast the jig and set the rod in the rodholder ???

No disrespect intended, this is my input. Life is full of choices and decisions, and aren't we fortunate to "Live In The USA", where we have the Freedom to choose?
