Sinking trees question

I plan on placing some trees out for fish structure and was wondering if part of the tree is out of the water is that ok(6 f-7ft tree upright in 4-5ft of water). Didn't know if the crappie liked to stage over the top or if it made much difference. Also planned on cutting a couple trees along the bank and letting them fall in for horizontal cover. This is in a private farm ponds.
