Mohawk surprise

I ketch them pretty often and think what many have already said , they seem to be more spunky and for sure bite harder as well .
I have held to the thought they are a subspecies myself for a long time even though research indicates otherwise .
I know spots where its full of black crappie and there aint a one Mohawk and I know another spot that the only crappie in it are mohawks ?
something about that smells of something aint quite whatever it is they say on them about just a genetic throw back thing on the pigmentation .

As I understand it Johnny .... they've been stocked in many lakes around the country, they are naturally occurring in many lakes around the country (in at least 22states), and if they crossbreed with a "regular" Black Crappie ... the offspring have a extremely high percentage rate of being born with the black stripe.
