You should be able to cast 1/32 & 1/16 oz. jigs (any kind) at much greater distances that what you are experiencing. What rod, reel & line size are you using? I don't think you really need to go up the 1/4 oz., but there's no really problem if you want to. Crappie will gobble them up!
