The Magnolia Crappie is a male Blacknose / female White Crappie hybrid offspring ... but, the pictures I've seen of them all look like a normal Blacknose Black Crappie. They are supposed to be "sterile" (triploids) but I've heard that's not 100% accurate. I've also heard that not all 100% of the offspring will have the black stripe.

I believe that most of the true Magnolia Crappie were stocked in small impoundments & only in Mississippi. So, if a Crappie with the black nose stripe is caught in Mississippi from their larger lakes, it's probably a true Blacknose & not a Magnolia Crappie ... and states outside of Mississippi would not have Magnolia Crappie in their waters, but may have Blacknose, whether stocked or naturally occurring.

Here's an article from 2012 relating to the Magnolia Crappie & the smaller impoundments (state lakes) they were released into : 'Magnolia crappie' released into lakes | Archives | timesdaily.com
