Thursday was the follow up test day for the "Modifying the Opti planer boards" thread started here ...:
http://www.crappie.com/crappie/main-...planer-boards/
OMG!!! ... ... There's no comparison in the efficiency gained by replacing the stock Opti board releases with the Offshore style clip releases (refer to thread linked above) ...
Not only is the front clip release much more reliable in "popping loose" from the Main line when needed - the rear clip release (with the added "pin" in the clip jaws) works like a charm in keeping the board attached to the line during retrieve (and simple to remove when the board reaches the boat during fish retrieval) ...
While the bright sun had the crappie mostly in hiding - we were able to "planer" up a mixed bag using Picos and Arkies ...
And some of Doug's custom color C55's tricks 'em ...
Even caught this beast for chaunc ...
All in all a productive day = testing the new clip releases, fellowship on the water with friends, and even catching a few fish ...
With the water in our home KY and Barkley Lakes clearing up thru the years, the fish may be starting to become skittish with being able to see the boat so readily ...
Planer board tactics get the baits out away from the boat (not to mention being able to troll a wider swath thru the water) ...
And if anyone thinks trolling is too boring = I assure you boards are exciting and ... very busy ...
