Does hook size really matter ?

number 8 sickle 1/64 minnow head ....small plastic bait ....lots a fry in the water around the surface ....anything larger hook wise and you ketch nada .....falls out of the strike zone way to fast and does not look like a helpless lil fry fish in the water ....so you see there is a method to my madness , and yes it was a good solid toad size fish ....in a heavily fished spot in the DFW metroplex .....
