usually tail down, but that's just becase I think it is less likely to get on the hook point. Don't know for sure. Really don't think up, down or side ways matters to the fish, be it crappie or green carp.

Which I suppose means if you stick it in its face it might just grab it. lol
Ive never thought very seriously about that if at all, but I just naturaly think tails are always in the back.
Ive never tried a curley tail on a Crappie however but I guess I should sometime.
Ive caught lots of Walleyes on them years ago when the only ones I knew about were Mr. Twister, and maybe that was best.
I always had the tails pointing up and it worked well for me.
I guess I never liked the look of dogs walking around with their tails down.
