Longlining line twists

I always use a small inline ball bearing swivel with any trolling because I most often have a small inline planer board attached. My set up is main line to swivel with a small plastic bead to protect knot then leader to either roadrunner, plain jig head. Or crawler harness. That depends on what species I am after. Line twist is never an issue . I troll from .5 to 2 mph

I am getting a lot of line twist when pulling 1/16oz jigs behind the boat at .8 - 1.0 mph. Does anyone use a swivel with longlining 1/16oz jigs or have another solution? My line is 8lb hi viz viscous line. Seems to want to twist a lot.

i do a lot of longlining, and in my experience spinning reels esp. small ones are going to have some line twist after some time. when your putting line on your reels pull the line out periodically and make sure the line doesn't twist. its going to coil a little that's fine but if it twists flip your spool over. i long line with two 1/16th jig heads and my line twist is minimal personally i use 6lbs stren but thats just personal preference. i dont use a swivel but if you wanted to i cant see what it would hurt. just my .

I had horrible issues with twist when I first started and a friend told me to tighten the drag and no more issues.

Actually, IF ... the fault lies in the jighead or misalignment of the plastic trailer, braid won't necessarily correct that problem. Braid can twist just as easily as mono, if the bait is spinning or rolling over.

Now, IF ... the fault lies in the line, for any of the reasons previously stated, then the limpness of braid could be a factor in preventing the problem.

I'm sure the braid still does twist, it just doesn't manifest itself like mono. Never had braid all twisted up in a birds nest like mono.

I troll at 0.9 to 1.2 mph on gps using 45# braid with a snap swivel then a 5' mono leader with double jigs and a small Spro swivel hooked to the snap swivel, never twists. This also gives me a easy way to change pre tied jigs just by unsnaping from the Spro swivel. I keep several colors tied on their leader on a swim tube

I use bait cast reels and never have a problem, even when the drag is set pretty light. Do you have your drag set light enough when you are reeling in a fish the drag is slipping while you are trying reel in the fish? Causing excessive twist? I have seen that before, having the drag set light enough in case of a snag with really light line.
Just a thought.
