where do the big crappies spawn?

It seems to have to do more with bottom composition and of course water clarity for the depth. These fish are spawning way later then the shallow fish as that deeper water warms much slower. With the beds in this deeper water it is not like shallow beds where there are bunches of them. The beds I have found deep very from only 25 to at the most 65-75 beds. Once found they seem to use the same area year to year.

I just picked up the helix 5 with DI . I don't have SI . Never used 1 before do think I will be able to find them?

The bigger fish will usually be females and they aren't going to be on the beds long. They will be in deeper water on brush or docks. Or at least that's what I find on my waters.

I really doubt with DI you will be able to find these deeper beds as they are dishpan shaped, with SI they need to be off of to the side to be able to see them. With 2D and Di it would only look like a divot on the bottom or sand dune no real way to see the dishpan shape..
