The fish only get one chance as I go by. If something hits, I make another pass, and another, and another till they quit. I never quit unless they tell me to.

Cane pole is right on. That's the way I do it also I also. I have some small buoys (I make these very small wooden buoys on a lathe myself) I throw out and make another pass or two and sometimes I even leave the area and come back by there later in the day. I sometimes troll very slow but I don't stop I just keep moving all the time.

For me, it depends on how big the "spot" is and whether it's a specific "spot" or a trail or bank full of them. Each "spot" will likely get several casts, not only from different angles but also at different depths (and maybe even different speeds).

I used to think that I was spending no more than 30mins at a spot/area before moving, if I hadn't caught any decent fish from it ... when, in reality, I was actually there two to three times longer than that. I'm a line watcher, not a clock watcher
