Planer Boards ?

I have used offshore but they are cumbersome for one man to run. Mr. Dux I like the review on the corks lol. To the point. I think there is not one board for every person just no one rod for everyone.

I agree boards are not a do it all for crappie fishing but they have there place when the condition is right.

For the guys that use them , what kind do you prefer?

I made my crappie planer boards out of 3/4" x 4" x 6" pieces of cedar. I just cut the front of each piece at a 45 degree angle and added two clips to hold the line. I also had to add a strip of lead to the rear to act as a counter balance to keep the board from diving. They work great for me. They're especially useful when trolling jigs in very shallow water.

Always used Offshore until two years ago when I bought my first pair of Opti's. Last year I pulled a pair of the Opti "medium" size boards which I found better for Crappie. The clips are still nice and wide and the board itself is about 75% the size of their normal " large/OR-12" size board giving it enough surface area for a wide spread out to the side. This year I will be pulling six Opti mediums and leaving the Offshore's at home.

Cray how do you like the sidewinder. How do you know you have a fish in.

If it is a fish of any size it will pull back and Bob like a bobber. If real small fish it will start to track out of line. Not hard to tell once you get used to them. Takes a little practice launching but once you figure it out pretty easy. Much easier for me fishing by my self as much as I do. Pull cranks and jigs with them. I have run 3/4 oz weight ahead of 1/8 poney head with no problem.
